It is classical argument on which is better between weight lifting and exercises. Some enjoy doing both immensely while others want research and decide which path to take to achieve that dream body or coveted health benefits.

Weight lifting includes Physical activities in which people lift weights also known as weight training. It can be divided into 3 categories based on how it’s performed and what type of equipment is used.

Free weight lifting is any exercise where the resistance is provided by dumbbells, a barbell or any other free moving object. It is completely natural movement that allows you move through a range of motion that is completely natural for your body.
It is also ideal for home use. Some weight and a bench is all you need to perform different exercises in your house.
It is however hard to learn first and high potential to risk of injury.
Body weight lifting is any exercise where the resistance is provided by your own body. Unlike moving a barbell or dumbbell from one point to another, body weight lifting requires you to move your body from one point to another. These include chin-ups, dips and push-ups.
These are again natural movements and highly functional. They can however be too hard or impossible for certain people.
Machine lifting involves working on a fixed path with weight. You are holding handles that are attached to some weight and moving them. Common types include, leg press, leg extension, machine press, row and curl.
It’s easy to learn and can be termed safer, there is less risk to get injured using a machine compared to the other categories. It is not ideal for home use and somehow less functional since the machine does part of the work for you.
Exercises on the other hand are physical activities that require planning, structure and repetitive body movement with the intent of improving or maintaining physical fitness level. Exercises can involve swimming, yoga, dancing, walking or running.
Exercises have ability to foster aerobic fitness, bone and muscular strengthening as well as improve flexibility of joints to move along a full range of motion.
So there you have it, each type can serve a useful purpose regardless what your goal is.
